In this chapter Holden meets up with "old Sally" but seems to think nothing but his own escape from New York, from the taxis, the movies and everything else he dubs as "phony". He sort of spontaneously announces his love for Sally, though he doesn't mean it, Holden simply wants out. Even though his original escape was to New York. Holden just can't find his own spot. Maybe he needs to find where these ducks at?
Good- yes, she's just a means to escape, right? What is he looking for?
ReplyDeleteI think he's looking for a sort escape from his childish ways as his plans of escape with Sally and later on when talking to Pheobe is him moving away and finding work. As if being a provider would help him escape himself and his identity to be a whole new person.
